Centering Community Power for Health and Racial Equity
9/25/2019: How can communities leverage soda tax revenues to fund community led health equity work?
Leveraging Soda Tax Revenues to Address Health Inequities: Reflecting from our first community briefing
Earlier in August we hosted our first of four community briefings in Fresno, CA with The Central Valley Urban Institute, Cultiva La Salud, and the Berkeley Food Institute on how communities in California, as a precedent to the rest of the country, can leverage using soda tax revenues to fund community-led and sustaining health equity work. These briefings come around the five year anniversary of the country’s first municipal tax, in Berkeley, CA and what is now possibly leading to a state-wide soda tax in California. In Fresno, we reflected on Berkeley's success and their work that has now funneled millions of dollars, guided by equitable community input, into community building organizations reaching those most affected by the root causes of poor dietary health.

Family is the foundation of healthy supports and resilience. We must keep families together, for the health and safety of immigrant families and our communities.
The NO BAN Act repeals the Muslim Ban & prevents similar bans in the future. Contact your representatives and tell them to support the #NOBANAct: mpowerchange.org/nobanact
The public charge rule on inadmissibility goes into effect in 21 days on October 15. This rule forces millions of families to choose between the things they need and the people they love. Now it is crucial to be aware of our rights, who in our communities will be affected, and how we can fight against this attack on low income immigrants.
